New York City Council Votes to Ban Central Park Horse Carriages by 2028
New York City's city council voted on Thursday to ban horse-drawn carriages in Central Park. If signed into law by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the ban will officially go into effect in June 2028. The transition period is intended to help roughly 150 active carriage drivers find alternative employment. The decision follows a fatal incident this past June involving a loose horse that killed an 18-year-old tourist from India.
